Twins Edge Yankees 7-6; Tolbert Wins Utility Job
The Twins beat the Yankees 7-6 in Fort Myers, Florida Sunday. Jim Thome and Michael Cuddyer each hit homeruns and Carl Pavano threw 6 innings with 11 hits and 4 earned runs allowed to get the win. The Twins also optioned infielder Luke Hughes and relief pitchers Athony Slama and Jim Hoey to triple-A Rochester. Matt Tolbert wins the utility infielder job with Hughes being sent to triple-A. The bullpen will consist of righthanders Joe Nathan, Matt Capps, Kevin Slowey and Jeff Manship and lefthander Jose Mijares, Dusty Hughes and Glen Perkins. Minnesota is 18-11 this spring and will play Pittsburgh at 12:05 this afternoon, pregame on WJON at 12:00. The Twins play exhibition games Tuesday and Wednesday in Atlanta. Hear both of them on WJON.
