Pitcher Jake Odorizzi signed a qualifying offer with the Minnesota Twins Thursday. The contract is worth $17.8 million for one season.

Odorizzi, 29, was 15-7 for the Twins last season with a 3.51 earned run average and 178 strikeouts in 159 innings pitched. He was named an All Star for the first time in his career and pitched effectively for the Twins in the ALDS' Game Three.

Had Odorizzi not signed the one-year deal, he would have been free to sign with any team as a free agent, while the Twins would have received draft pick compensation.
