A former St. Cloud River Bats Field Manager has been named bench coach for the Cleveland Guardians.

Tony Arnerich coached the St. Cloud River Bats, who preceded the Rox organization in the Northwoods League, from 2007 to 2009, leading the team to a division title in '07.

He began his River Bats career while a coach with Sonoma State University before taking a job as a volunteer assistant at Cal beginning in 2007.

The Seattle Mariners hired Arnerich to be their catching coordinator for the 2017 season, then picked up other duties with the club over the next few years before being named hitting coach in 2022. In 2024, Arnerich was named bullpen coach for the Mariners.

Interestingly, current Guardians skipper Stephen Vogt was the bullpen coach in Seattle before taking the Guardians gig. His role was filled in Seattle by Arnerich.
