(Saturday April 16th)

SCTCC CYCLONES 6 MN. STATE SPARTANS 5
(Game #1)

The Cyclones put up a couple of early runs, they collected eleven hits including a home run and a pair of doubles. Grady Fuchs a 6’0” freshman from Paynesville High School started on the mound. He threw five innings, he gave up seven hits, five runs, one walk and he recorded eight strikeouts. Sam Boysen a 6’2” sophomore from Rochester John Marshall High School threw two innings in relief to earn the win. He issued one walk and he recorded three strikeouts.

The Cyclones offense was led by Drew Beier from Foley High School, he went
3-for-4 with a home run for two RBIs, he had a stolen base and he scored three runs. Jackson Peter from Belgrade-Brooten Elrosa went 2-for-4 with a double for three RBI’s. Frank Fernandez from Key Gate Charter School Florida went 1-for-4 with a RBI and Michael Solis from Gregory Portland High School Texas went 2-for 3. Joel Torres Rivera from Manuel Cruz Madeira Puerto Rico went 1-for-2 with a double, he earned a walk and he scored a pair of runs. Austin Kantola from Dassel-Cokato High School went 1-for-3 and he earned a walk. Carter Wessel from Paynesville High School went 1-for-4 with a sacrifice bunt and he scored a run and Nick Allen from Duluth East High School scored a run.

The Spartans starting pitcher was Wyatt Halvorson, he threw six innings, he gave up ten hits and six runs. Mike Short threw 1/3 of an inning in relief, he gave up one hit. The Spartans had six guys collect hits, Jackson Martin from Dassel-Cokato High School went 1-for-3 with a home run for two RBI’s. Ty Karger went 1-for-3 with a double for two RBI’s and he scored a run. Chris Norby went 1-for-4 with a double for an RBI and he scored a run. Cal Schmitz from Monticello High School went 1-for-4 and he scored a run. Mike Short went 1-for-3 and he scored a run and Daniel Buendorf went 1-for-2. Dylan Gerten from Melrose High School earned a walk and he had a stolen base and Max Brommerich earned a walk.

The Cyclones collected ten hits, including three doubles, seven players collected hits. They put up three runs in the second inning, five in the fourth, one in the fifth and four in the sixth inning. They gave righty Drew Beier a great deal of support, he started on the mound, he threw a complete game to earn the win. He gave up five hits, three runs, one walk and he record ten strikeouts.

The Cyclones offense was led by Drew Beier, he went 3-for-5 with a double for two RBI’s, a stolen base and he scored a run. Cyclone catcher Austin Kantola went 1-for-3 with a double for two RBI’s, he earned a walk and he scored two runs. The Cyclones second baseman Dylan Haskamp went 2-for-3 with a sacrifice fly for a RBI and he scored a run. The Cyclones right fielder Frank Fernandez went 1-for-3 with a double for an RBI and he earned a walk. Center fielder Jackson Peter went 1-for-3, he earned a walk and he scored a run. Left fielder Carter Wesell went 1-for-3 and he scored a run. Shortstop Joel Torres Rivera went 1-for-3, he earned a walk and he scored a run. Cyclone third baseman Carson Geislinger was credited for an RBI, he earned a walk, a stolen base and he scored two runs. Ben Kopacz from Flanders High School Wisconsin earned three walks and Ben Kullberg from St. Michael High School earned a walk.

The Spartans Will Hoernmann started on the mound, he threw five innings, he gave up eight hits, nine runs, two walks and he recorded five strikeouts. Noah Aufdengarten threw 2/3 of an inning, he gave up one hit, four runs and three walks and Jack Ramthun gave up a hit.

The Spartans were led by Ty Karger on offense, he went 2-for-3 for two RBI’s and Chris Norby went 1-for-3 with a double and he scored a run. Dylan Gerten went 2-for-2, Mike Short earned a walk and he scored a run and Nate Aydegarten had a sacrifice. Daniel Byendorf went 1-for-3 and he scored a run and Cal Schmitz went 1-for-3.
