SAINT CLOUD STATE UNIVERSITY HUSKIES BASEBALL RECAP

The Huskies traveled to Sioux Falls, SD to play on the turf against their NSIC rivals Southwest Mn. State Mustangs. They were scheduled to play at Joe Faber, but the weather prevented that from happening. The took all three games, they now have a 23-10 record and 15-4 in the NSIC.

(GAME #1)

The Huskies collected nine hits, including three doubles and a home run to gave their pitchers good support. They put up two runs in the third, two more in the fifth and three more in the sixth inning. Riley Ahern a 6’4” junior righty started on the mound, he threw 1 2/3 innings, he recorded three strikeouts. Nick Brauns a 6’1” senior righty threw 1 2/3 innings, he gave up fourth its, one run, one walk and he recorded a strikeout. Ethan Lanthier a 6’5” freshman righty threw 3 2/3 innings in relief, he gave up one hit, one walk and he recorded five strikeouts.

The Huskies offens was led by their sophomore center fielder John Nett. He had a great game, he went 3-for-4 with a home run and a double for four RBI’s and he scored three runs. The Huskies junior second baseman Sam Ricola went 1-for-2 with a double for an RBI. Senior Paul Steffesnen went 1-for-3 and he scored a run. Husky Senior shortstop Max Gamm went 1-for-2 with a double, he earned a walk and he scored a pair of walks. Sophomore left fielder Tyler Schiller went 1-for-2, he earned a walk and he scored two runs and junior catcher Drew Bulson went 1-for-3.

The starting pitcher for the Mustangs was Ryan Chmielewski a freshman from Foley High School. He threw 5 2/3 innings, he gave up nine hits, seven runs, two walks and he recorded two strikeouts. Craig Lesley threw 1/3 of an inning, he gave recorded a strikeout. They were led on offense by Robbie Smith, he went 1-for-3 with a double, NIck Brown went 1-for-2 and Max Karenbenberg earned two walks and he scored their lone run. Keenan Wenzel, Jaxon Hasse and Isaac Nett all went 1-for-3. Isaac is a Albany High School graduate.

(GAME #2)

The Huskies collected thirteen hits, including four home runs and a double, in addition to errorless defense. This gave their pitcher a lot of support, Luke Tupy a lefty from New Prague High School started on the mound. He threw five innings to earn the win, he gave up one hit, issued one walk and he recorded six strikeouts. Shannon Ahern a lefty from The Academy of Holy Angels threw one inning in relief, he recorded a strikeout.

The Huskies offense was led by four players with multiple hit games, led by junior Sam Riola from Blaine High School. HE went 2-for-2 with two home runs for six hug RBI’s. John Nett a sophomore from Kimberly High School Wisconsin went 2-for-4 with a home run for two RBI’s and he had a stolen base. Max Gamm a senior from Eastern Ridge High School went 2-for-4 with a home run and he scored a pair of runs.  Tyler Schiller a sophomore from Hutchinson High School went 1-for-3 for an RBI and he scored a pair of runs. Nick Friedges a freshman from South St. Paul High School as a pincher hitter went 1-for-1 with a double for two RBIs. Tate Wallet a sophomore from Todd Beamer high School Washington went 2-for-3 and he scored a pair of runs. Drew Bulson a junior from St. Cloud Tech High School went 1-for-1 with a pair of walks. Sawyer Smith a freshman Shoreland Lutheran High School Wisconsin went 1-for-1 and he scored a run. Ethan Navratilova a freshman from Albany High School earned a pair of walks. Cameron Vloomer a junior from Hillcrest High School went 1-for-3 and he scored a run and Parker Savage a junior from Bishop Alexander Carter Catholic Secondary Ontario scored a run.

The Mustangs starting pitcher Kolby Kiser threw 2 2/3 innings, he gave up five hits, four runs, one walk and he recorded one strikeout. Kobe Lovell threw 1 1/3 inning in relief, he gave up two hits, two runs, and he issued two walks. Jerod Cyrus threw the final inning in relief, he gave up two hits, two runs, one walk and he recorded two walk and Chase McDaniel had a stolen base.

(Game #3)

The Huskies collected nine hits, including two home runs, this gave their pitcher enough support.  Lefty Ryan Duffy a senior from South St. Paul High School, threw seven innings, he gave up five hits, one run and he recorded seven strikeouts. Lefty Jack Habeck a sophomore from Appleton East High School Wisconsin threw one inning in relief, he gave up four hits and two runs. Righty Tommy Thompson a sophomore from Chanhassen High School threw the final inning in relief, he gave up a hit and he issued one walk.

The Huskies were led on offense by John Nett, he went 2-for-3 with a home run, he earned a pair of walks, two stolen bases and he scored three runs. Ethan Navratil  went 1-for-3 with a home run and he earned a walk. Paul Steffensen went 1-for-4 for an RBI and he earned a walk. Tate Wallat went 2-for-5 and Sam Riola went 1-for-3 and he earned a pair of walks. Tyler Schiller went 1-for-4 for an RBI and he earned a walk, Tyler had the walk off single for the Huskies. Cameron Vollmer went 1-for-4 and Drew Bulson earned a walk. The Huskies scored in the bottom of the 9th with three singles to earn the three game sweep over the Mustangs.

The Mustangs starting pitcher was Ansen Dulas, he threw six innings, he gave up six hits, three runs, two walks and he recorded six strikeouts. Brady Petron from Royalton High School threw 1 2/3, he gave up two hits, two walks and he recorded a strikeout. Andy Andresen threw 1/3 of an inning, he issued two walks and one run. Kobe Lovell threw 2/3 of an inning in relief, he gave up one hit, one walk and a run.
