It's hard to believe, with the warm weather we have been having, that hockey season is here. Saturday evening marked the start of the season for one area team, and, as usual, it ended with a win. The Granite City Lumberjacks handled the Willmar Warhawks Saturday night, and now are off for a few days.

The evening started with a tailgate party for fans ahead of the game. After the parking lot party ended, fans moved indoors for the game.

Another Win For The Lumberjacks

The Granite City Lumberjacks got their season off to a positive start with a home opener win over the Willmar Warhawks, 6-2, Saturday night at the Miller Buick GMC Arena at the Benton County Fairgrounds.

What's Next For The Lumberjacks?

The Lumberjacks will be back in action in two weeks as they welcome the Wisconsin Woodsmen for a home series on September 26th and 27th at the Miller Buick GMC Arena. Both games are scheduled for 7:30pm.

The game would be considered an intra-league game as the Lumberjacks play in the West Division and the Woodsmen play in the Central Division.

Last season, the Woodsmen finished in 4th place in the Central Division, with a record of 24-16-6.

If you'd like to attend a game, you can see the Lumberjacks' full season schedule by heading here. Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for students and senior citizens.
