The Minnesota Wild rallied for a win against St. Louis in overtime, the Timberwolves fell to New Orleans in OT, and the Twins got blown out by Kansas City. Meanwhile, collegiate baseball and softball teams ended up with three sweeps and a split.

The Vikings selected left tackle Christian Darrisaw from Virginia Tech with the #23 overall pick in the first round Thursday night after trading back from #14 with the New York Jets. Star Tribune Sports Columnist Jim Souhan joined me on WJON today. He says the Vikings may have wanted left tackle Rashawn Slater from Northwestern who was selected #13 by Northwestern.

The first round of the NFL draft is tonight starting at 7 p.m. Star Tribune Sports Columnist Jim Souhan joined me on WJON today. He says we think the Vikings want one of the top left tackles but that may not be the case. Souhan says it is possible that the Vikings could be looking at an edge rusher or cornerback.

The Timberwolves earned an upset win against the Utah Jazz, the Wild won their seventh straight game and secured a spot in the playoffs, and the Twins failed to get much offense going in a loss to Pittsburgh on Saturday. Local college baseball and softball teams had a mostly successful day as well. Between St. Cloud State, St. John's, and St. Ben's, three teams earned doubleheader sweeps and one was swept.

The Minnesota Wild notched their sixth straight win, while the Twins snapped a four-game losing streak, and high school sports teams tried to tough out the rain on Friday.

The Twins are promoting outfielder Alex Kirilloff and infielder Nick Gordon. Star Tribune Sports Columnist Jim Souhan joined me on WJON today. He says the Twins have higher hopes for Kirilloff than Gordeon. Souhan says Kirilloff could be their answer in left field and his high end could be a Max Kepler with better plate disipline.

Cathedral baseball coach Bob Karn earned his 800th win on a night when local pro sports were off. However, we have a full slate of action on Friday.

The Twins lost 13-12 at Oakland in 10 innings to the Athletics. Star Tribune Sports Columnist Jim Souhan joined me on WJON today. He says it's undeniable that the bullpen is struggling especially Alex Colome and Hansel Robles. He says Taylor Rogers should be installed as the closer at least in the short term to instill some confidence.

The SJU and SCSU baseball teams each earned doubleheader sweeps, the Wild beat the Coyotes and the Twins and Wolves each lost. Here's a look at all things sports for Thursday.
