Buxton’s Clutch Hit Lifts Twins Over Orioles
BALTIMORE -- Rookie Byron Buxton notched his first career RBI to lead the Minnesota Twins to a 3-2 victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday night.
Starter Kyle Gibson kept the Twins in the game, allowing only two runs on six hits in 5 2/3 innings.
The Twins offense finally broke through in the seventh inning, with a game-tying sacrifice bunt by catcher Kurt Suzuki that scored Eddie Rosario.
Two batters later, Byron Buxton lashed a bases-loaded two-out single to left field to score Torii Hunter and give Minnesota the 3-2 lead.
Without closer Glen Perkins, the Twins bullpen held the Orioles hitless over the final three-plus innings and Kevin Jepsen came on to close out his second straight game.
The Twins (62-61) will go for the four-game sweep today with Mike Pelfrey (6-7) taking the mound against Kevin Gausman (2-5) at 12:35 p.m.
