The St. John's University hockey team notched a big win over Bethel University to kick off conference play on Friday night.

SJU got off to a hot start, scoring on six of their first eight shots. By the end of the first quarter, they had a 4-0 lead. Bethel got on the board in the second, but the Johnnies rolled on to an 8-2 win.

Brady Heppner and Davis Kirkendall both netted two for the Johnnies. Kyle Wagner, Jack Johnson, Travis Brown, and Jerome Newhouse each added one.

The Johnnies improve to 1-0-1. They will travel to Blaine to play game two against Bethel on Saturday night. Puck-drop is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
