Twin Cities Marathon Moving to Later in the Fall Due to Rising Temps
The heat is on! Sounds like a song, right? I am not a runner, but I have heard from multiple people who do run half and full marathons that cooler weather is much better for running. And I can imagine that would be true. As you run, obviously you are going to heat up, and if it's already warm and maybe humid, that doesn't work well.
IT'S BEEN TOO HOT FOR THE MARATHON - IT WAS CANCELED A FEW YEARS AGO
A couple of years ago. you may remember that the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon had to be cancelled at the last minute because it was just too hot. This has also seemed to be the trend for the last few years. So, the organizers have made the decision to move the event to later in the month.
NEXT YEAR THE MARATHON WILL BE MOVED TO LATER IN THE MONTH
This year, the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon will happen at the usual time.It is scheduled for the 3rd and 4th of October. Next year, and from then on, the marathon date will be moving to the middle of October. The hope is that the cooler weather will be present here in Minnesota. You wouldn't want to go any later then that, because of the possibility of snow. That's life in Minnesota. Skipping seasons like Spring and Fall. Sometimes it seems like we only have Winter and Summer. That isn't actually the truth, but it does feel like that at times.
This move will also be better for spectators, as you won't be standing out in any sort of blistering heat. At least that is the plan. All the events will be moving, including the 10 mile run, 5K and 10K too. A benefit to having the event more in the middle of the month, it will also be a benefit to runners and spectators will be the fall colors. At least it will be pretty while you are running.
WHAT IS THE EXACT DATE FOR NEXT YEAR'S MARATHON
The Twin Cities Marathon in 2027 will be October 17th. They would have moved it this year, but things were already in motion, so hopefully the weather will cooperate when October 3rd and 4th roll around this year.
