The Gopher football team downed West Virginia 18-6 in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl in Phoenix, Arizona. Ky Thomas ran for 147 yards and a touchdown and Mar'Keise Irving ran for 131 yards for Minnesota. Tanner Morgan threw for 109 yards for the Gophers.

Meanwhile, the Minnesota Vikings return home to U.S. Bank Stadium to host the NFC North-leading Green Bay Packers Sunday.

The St. John's University football team scored a last second touchdown to beat Bethel and win the MIAC Championship in Arden Hills. The Gopher men's hockey and basketball teams, Granite City Lumberjacks, Minnesota Wild, and NDSU football team also came out of their Saturday matchups on top. The SCSU men's hockey team, Golden Gopher football team, St. Cloud Norsemen, and Minnesota Timberwolves were not so lucky. Meanwhile the Gopher men's and women's basketball teams are looking to build on their momentum heading into Sunday's games, and the Minnesota Vikings will travel to Los Angeles to face the Chargers in what might just be a do or die matchup.

The Twins dropped game three to the Blue Jays, the Wild came up short in their exhibition opener, and the Gophers fell to Bowling Green in Minneapolis on Saturday. Meanwhile, the Minnesota Lynx are prepping for a single-elimination playoff game against Chicago, and the Vikings look to earn their first win of the season when the Seattle Seahawks come to town on Sunday.
