Every summer, there are events that bring people together. Then some events become traditions.

The annual Skate Free Charlie 'Goons For Good' Memorial is returning to St. Cloud June 12th through the 14th, and organizers are hoping to make this year's gathering the biggest and most memorable one yet.

GOONS FOR GOOD TOURNAMENT

The tournament will once again take place at the MAC Complex in St. Cloud, a move that many participants requested after previous events. Organizers listened, and now players will be back on familiar ice for a weekend that is about much more than hockey.

At its heart, Skate Free Charlie is about friendship, community, and honoring the memory of someone who clearly made a lasting impact on the people around him. While the games are certainly a big part of the weekend, ask anyone who has attended before, and they will likely tell you that the stories made off the ice are just as important as the ones made on it.

WHAT'S NEW THIS YEAR? TWO DIVISIONS!

This year features two divisions designed to welcome players of different skill levels.

THE FUN DIVISION

The Fun Division allows individuals to register on their own. Balanced teams will be created to keep competition fair, and players can even request to be paired with a friend or two when roster sizes allow. Every participant is guaranteed four games, receives a player gift, and can look forward to additional activities that will be announced as the event approaches.

THE COMPETITIVE DIVISION

For those who already have a group ready to hit the ice together, the Competitive Division offers team registration with a four-game guarantee and the opportunity to skate with your own squad throughout the weekend. Early registration discounts are available, and organizers note that team spots will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

MAKING IMPROVEMENTS FOR MORE TIME TO RELAX AND SOCIALIZE

One of the biggest improvements this year may be what is MISSING from the schedule. Organizers have eliminated the dreaded three-game days to give the players more time to relax, socialize, and actually enjoy the weekend.

DON'T FORGET ABOUT THE CORNHOLE TOURNAMENT

And if hockey is not enough, there is also a cornhole tournament scheduled for Saturday. Open to everyone, not just tournament participants, the competition offers prizes for the top two teams and provides another reason for friends and families to spend time together between games.

BUSINESSES CAN GET INVOLVED

Businesses can get involved as well through several sponsorship opportunities, including shirt sponsorships and a unique cornhole sponsorship package that includes a custom set of boards used during the event.

HOW TO GET REGISTERED

The best reason to join may be the simplest one. Life gets busy. We do not always make time to reconnect with old friends, meet new people, or spend a weekend doing something purely for fun. Events like this give all of us a reason to do exactly that.
