The Minnesota Wild took the ice for the first time in 2012-13 for an intra-squad scrimmage Wednesday night at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. Over 18,000 tickets were distributed for the event, and the attendance was announced at 13,096.

The Red team featured most of the Wild's top offensive threats as well as newly acquired superstars Zach Parise and Ryan Suter.

Defenseman Jared Spurgeon led the way for the Red team by scoring two goals in a 4-1 victory. Spurgeon also had an electrifying goal in the shootout following the game.

Other goal scorers in the scrimmage included Nick Palmieri and Pierre-Marc Bouchard.

Wild coach Mike Yeo said after the scrimmage that the team played "okay," and added that there is a lot to take care of before Saturday night's regular season opener.

The Wild will take on the Colorado Avalanche at the Xcel Energy Center on Saturday night, and you can catch the game on WJON. The pregame show begins at 7:35 and the opening faceoff is scheduled for 8 pm.
