Is Minnesota’s Best Broasted Chicken Found Inside This Purple Building?
Ever had broasted chicken before? When it's done right, it's pretty good, but the challenge is where to find a good broasted chicken. There's been some heavy debate over the years as to where in Minnesota can someone find the perfect broasted chicken. Many people have declared the Brass Rail in Grandy the winner, but have you tried the broasted chicken from the 'purple palace'?
What is broasted chicken?
Licious.in describes a broasted chicken as being: “Broasted” is a trademarked word. The cooking process of broasted chicken begins in the same way as fried chicken, where it gets seasoned and then rolled in batter and flour. However, from here begins the difference. Broasted chicken is first deep-fried in a high-pressure cooker for a minute to keep the breading intact. Thereafter, the lid of the cooker is closed to lock the moisture inside the chicken. Since the outside surface of the chicken is sealed, less penetration of oil in the chicken’s meat takes place. In simple words, broasted chicken is a chicken that is fried in oil but inside a pressure cooker, precisely a pressure fryer.
I start with reviews online, the Purple Palace in Vining has had plenty of reviews on its broasted chicken, and even with an ownership change recently the chicken still seems to be as good as ever.
The next thing I am looking for when it comes to a place that serves great broasted chicken is that the building needs to look well-used/lived in. You never find great broasted chicken at those 'corporate' chains. I don't know why there is a correlation between the building's appearance and great broasted chicken, but there is.
The building on the inside has undergone some updates with the new owners, so it's worth the trip up to Otter Tail County to see the changes and of course, try some of the best broasted chicken around.
Where do you think they sell the best broasted chicken?
