ST. CLOUD -- The St. Cloud State Huskies men's hockey team edged the Western Michigan Mustangs 4-3 in overtime in Game 1 of the first round of the NCHC Playoffs.

Jimmy Murray got the Huskies on the board with a power play goal in the first period giving SCSU a 1-0 lead.

Western Michigan would take the lead with two goals in the second, but the Huskies' Will Borgen scored late in the period to tie the game 2-2 heading into the third.

The Huskies took a 3-2 lead after a goal by Kalle Kossila just over five minutes into the final period, but the Mustangs came back again with a goal midway through the period.

SCSU sealed the game late in the overtime period when Patrick Newell netted a goal, giving the Huskies a 1-0 lead in the playoff series.

Game 2 takes place tonight at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center. The puck drops at 7:07 p.m. Game 3, if necessary, will be on Sunday at 7:07 p.m.
