SAINT CLOUD STATE UNIVERSITY HUSKIES BASEBALL RECAP

(Sunday April 10)

The Huskies were forced to play their scheduled home games on the road. They traveled to Concordia of St. Paul for a pair of NSIC games. The field at Joe Faber wasn’t in playable condition.

The Huskies were down early against the Golden Bears, but a couple late inning rallies gave them the NSIC win. The Huskies collected eleven hits including a double and a home run. They scored the winning run on a balk, that allowed John Nett to score the winning run. This gave the Huskies pitchers the support they needed. Riley Ahern a junior from The Academy of Holy Angels started on the mound. He threw four innings, he gave up six hits, issued three walks and he recorded five strikeouts. Nick Brauns a senior from Sunrise Mountain High School Arizona threw 2 1/3 innings in relief. He gave up two hits, one run, issued three walks and he recorded two strikeouts. Ethan Lanthier a freshman from Northfield High School threw 2/3 of an inning in relief to earn the win. He gave up one hit and he recorded a strikeout.

The Huskies offense was led by John Nett a sophomore from Kimberly High School Wisconsin. He went 3-for-4 with a double for two RBI’s, he earned a walk and he scored a run. Drew Bulson a junior from St. Cloud Tech went 1-for-4 with a home run for two RBI’s. Paul Steffensen a senior from Kenai Central Alaska went 1-for-4 for two RBI’s. Tyler Schiller a sophomore from Hutchinson High School went 2-for-3 and he scored a pair of runs. Max Gamm a senior from East Ridge High School went 1-for-3, he earned a walk and he scored a run. Tate Wallat a sophomore from Todd Beamer High School went 1-for-3 and he earned a walk. Cameron Vollmer a junior from Hillcrest High School California went 1-for-4. Reid Conlee a junior from Blaine High School went 1-for-2 and Mitchell Gumbko a sophomore from Forrest Hills Northern High School Michigan scored a run.

The Golden Bears starting pitcher was Luke Degrammont, he threw five innings, he gave up seven hits, three runs and he issued two walks. Matt Sherman threw 1 2/3 innings in relief, he was the pitcher of record. He gave up four hits, four runs, one walk and he recorded a strikeout.

The offense was led by Jack Young, he went 2-for-4 with a home run for two RBIs,  one walk and he scored two runs. Jaden Werner went 2-for-4 with a triple and a double and he scored a run. Matt Pietsch went 2-for-3 for an RBI, he earned a walk, had a stolen base and he scored a run. Kal Brahmer went 1-for-1 for an RBI and Braydon Roybaol went 1-for-3 with a walk and Bryce Nelson went 1-for-3. Chandler Ibach earned two walks, NIck Thimsen had a stolen base and he scored a run and Jaron Wandersee earned a walk and he scored a run.

The Huskies collected ten his, they put up nine big runs in the second inning and they never looked back. They added three runs in the sixth to end the game in seven innings on the ten run rule. They gave Ethan Lanthier a 6’5” freshman great support to work with. He threw five innings to earn the win. He gave up three hits, one run and he recored two strikeouts. Owen Anderson a 6’0” freshman from Huston High School Wisconsin threw two innings in relief, he recorded three strikeouts.

The Huskies offense was led by Paul Steffensen, the Huskies right fielder. He went 2-for-4 with a double for three RBIs and he scored a pair of runs. Drew Bulson the Husky catcher went 2-for-2 with a big three run home run and he scored a pair of runs. Sam Riola the Huskies second baseman went 2-for-4 with a home run for two RBIs and he scored a pair of runs. Max Gamm the Husky short stop went 1-for-2 with a double for two RBI’s, he earned a walk and he scored a run. John Nett the Husky center fielder went 1-for-4 for an RBI, he had a stolen base and he scored a run. Ethan Navratil the Husky first baseman went 1-for-2 with a double, he earned a walk and he scored a run. Tate Wallat the Husky third baseman went 1-for-3, he earned a walk and he scored a pair of runs. Cam Vollmer the Husky DH earned two walks and he scored a run. Tyler Schiller the Husky left fielder earned a walk and he scored a run.

The Golden Bears starting pitcher Jonah Lewis was the pitcher of record. He threw 1 1/3 innings, he gave up six hits, eight runs and two walks. Jarod Wandersee went 2-for-2 with a double, Nick Thimsen went 1-for-2 with a double and he scored a run and Justin McGuigan was credited for a RBI.
