The Minnesota State Fair has been over for over a month now, and you may or may not wonder what in the world happens to all of the leftover food from the vendors at the fair.  I'm sure that on the last day of the fair, there are probably some discounts you can get if you are at the fair.  However, there is still a bunch of leftover food.  So, what do they do with it?

THE EXTRA FOOD ABSOLUTELY DOES NOT GO TO WASTE

Turns out, they donate it to local food shelves.  This is pretty awesome!

Now, this didn't just happen.  It actually happened right after the fair ended, but we now have the numbers from all of the food that was donated.  Second Harvest Heartland shows up with some refrigerated trucks and collects the food.

REFRIGERATED TRUCKS CAME BY AFTER THE FAIR TO HELP TRANSFER THE FOOD

This week, Second Harvest Heartland and their partners collected more than 25,000 pounds of remaining food donations from State Fair vendors.

Some of the largest donations included potatoes, cheese curds, pickles, and milk. Additional donations included chicken, hot dogs & buns, egg rolls and more!

Partner food shelves have been working to distribute these items to those in need throughout our community.

25.000 pounds of food is absolutely amazing!!!  Think about all of the people that was able to benefit.  Even though it isn't necessarily everything in all 4 food groups, it's still some quality food that was able to go to some very needy people.  So that's a great feeling.

YOU CAN GET INVOLVED WITH SECOND HARVEST HEARLAND

If you aren't familiar with Second Harvest Hearland, they serve around 200 food banks around the area.  So they are essentially a hub for donated food.

If you would like to get involved and volunteer, or if you would like more information on how and what to donate, you can get all of that information right on their website.

Get ready for the Great Minnesota Get-Together coming in 2027 - August 26th though Labor Day September 6th.
