Clearwater Legion Riders Raised Over $125,000 For Homeless Vets Saturday
On Saturday, I loaded up the official 103.7 The Loon cruiser to hit the road with the Clearwater Legion Riders on their annual Homeless Veterans Run. This year's event brought the riders to Foley, Zimmerman and Monticello before returning back to Clearwater for the big auction, pork chop feed and block party.
OVER 200 RIDERS ON THE RUN
Over 200 riders participated in this year's run and it was a blast to see it play out over the course of the day, which started with kickstands going up at 10:30 in Clearwater. The group took the back roads to the Foley Legion, gobbling up some mileage and taking in the scenery on a picture perfect summer afternoon in Minnesota.
There were a couple of trucks at the front of the pack along with designated leaders on bikes that help coordinate the massive group when it comes to a major intersection or stop. In most cities, local police were also made aware of the group's arrival and were more than happy to assist with traffic control as well.
LOTS OF MONEY RAISED
While the ride itself is a lot of fun, the main goal of the day was to raise money for several local charities that help veterans with homelessness or other needs that may come up.
This year's run was the biggest yet and raised over $125,000 for people in need.
