No More Butterflies at the Benton County Fair this Year
If you have been looking forward to seeing a bunch of butterflies at the Benton County Fair this year, unfortunately that will not happen. The Benton County Fair just posted on their social media page that the Butterfly House was cancelled.
There were quite a few comments on this post wondering what happened. Even some asking in a joking manner if they flew away - essentially, yes. That is what happened. However, it wasn't that they just flew away, they were released.
WHAT HAPPENED TO THE BUTTERFLIES AT THE FAIR
There were also some comments about people mishandling the butterflies. That isn't why they were released. The fair has stated that they were released so that they could "begin their journey".
THERE IS ANOTHER CHANCE TO SEE A BUTTERFLY HOUSE IN MINNESOTA
There is a butterfly house at the Minnesota State Fair, if you are super interested in seeing and handling butterflies, you can head to the State fair at the end of the month and enjoy everything that has to offer.
I have been in the butterfly house at the state fair, and it really is one of the coolest zen things that you can do there. So it is a bummer that won't be available on a local level here at the Benton County Fair.
HANDLING BUTTERFLIES CAN BE A LITTLE TRICKY
There are some rules that are posted around the butterfly area at the state fair, and one is to just let the butterflies land on you if you would like - on their own. You are not supposed to chase them down, so to speak. Touching their wings isn't good. But you can let them land on you and then they will fly away. There is no way you can be upset with all of those beautiful creatures flying around you. It's a relaxing moment. For most people, anyway.
The Benton County Fair is going on now through Sunday in Sauk Rapids.
