With the rise of home delivery for just about anything a person could want, it's not a surprise that porch piracy is still a big problem, even with doorbell cameras. One Central Minnesota woman recently shared to an online community page a porch pirate story with a twist! Are they now trying to avoid the cameras?

A Central Minnesota woman posted to the St. Cloud, MN Area Community page earlier this week, about an experience she had with a package that was to be delivered to her home. What's scary is that if the driver didn't know the recipient of the package, it may have ended up completely different!

Here's what was shared on social media, and with the woman's permission, here too:

I want to share something weird/ creepy that happened today. I apologize this might be long. My husband (name) was expecting his new phone to be delivered today via FedEx Express. When I answered the door the courier (we know her personally she is my husband’s ex coworker) told me something strange happened to her shortly before.

She was stopped somewhere on her route not far from us and a man pulled up behind her and said he was expecting a delivery from her but wasn’t going to be home so could he get it from her right then. She asked for his name and address. He said (my husbands name and our address). She told him No you are not [that person]. He says “[name] is a Hispanic name too”. She says “ I know that. But you are not this [person]”. She asked him for his ID he said sure but got in his car and drove away.

Someone knew my husbands name and address and that he would be having a phone delivered today and approached the driver before she made the delivery! Thankfully I was home because it didn’t need a signature. We are not sure how someone could have gotten this information. But apparently they did and they will probably try again!

Is this what porch pirates are doing now? Learning about packages coming to your house, USPS offers this free for postal customers, and then attempting to get them off the truck, rather than from a porch that most likely has a camera?

I'm not 100% sure about my hunch, but it does make some sense.

What do you think about what happened?
