Good Directions? The ‘Charlie’s Cafe’ House In Freeport Is Gone

If you are a frequent visitor or you happen to live in the town of Freeport, located just up I-94 from St. Cloud, a large directional sign has now been removed, and I'm sure this intersection now just feels empty.

The Charlie's Cafe house, the one right near I-94 that let you know you were just a block from some delicious food, has been removed according to the Melrose Area Museum.

Next time you drive through Freeport, you may notice a change to the community. The "Charlie's Cafe" house, which was located next to the I-94 exchange, was removed this week. The lot across the road from the ice cream store is now empty. Are you going to miss this "landmark"?

According to the post from the Melrose Area Museum, the home was removed sometime this week.

I went back through the last three months of the City Council meetings in Freeport and didn't find a mention of the home, so I'm not totally sure why the home was taken down.

The long-standing cafe in town is described online as having "a story as genuine as its food, the history of Charlie’s Café is like a delicious serving of homemade meringue pie."

The cafe is open 7 days a week, with various hours, depending on what day it is. For those looking to grab a bite to eat at the cafe, getting there earlier is better than later.
