Minnesota Wedding Venue Closes Abruptly – No Refunds Offered

When you get engaged, the first thing you should do is to find and book your wedding venue.  Sometimes they are hard to find at the right price, and to find one that is affordable.  After that part is done, then you just need to put the rest of your wedding together.  Church (or destination), guest list, flowers, food and all the rest of the fun stuff.

You look forward to the date, plan everything, making sure everyone will have a great time, including yourselves.  Then, what happens when the venue suddenly closes with only a couple of weeks left before the big day?

This is awful.  This is exactly what happened with a wedding and event venue in Isanti, Minnesota.  It's called Circle B Wedding and Events.  There were several people who booked their weddings and events there, and it's suddenly closed.  And apparently there will be no refunds. It's bad enough that the people who had booked the venue, now have to find somewhere else in a scramble, but they are also out the money, apparently.  Does anyone else here think the term lawsuit may be used?  Somehow I don't think they are going to get away with suddenly closing without giving back at least some of the money that couples had put down as a down payment.  Or in some cases, maybe the entire amount.

The owners of Circle B did send out an email letting people who had booked the venue know that they were sorry, but that they are having to close.

We are sorry to announce that Circle B Wedding and Events Venue will be closing effective immediately. It is no longer possible to maintain the business in the current economic environment, the change in the economy, proliferation of new wedding venues in the market and most importantly, increased costs to have forced the management to make the difficult decision to close this historic venue.

Now, as I understand that sometimes these situations happen, then the right thing to do would be to honor the bookings that you already have, and not take any more reservations.  Or, honor the ones that are coming up within the next month or two, and then refund the rest if they are booked out far enough.  At least something more than "we're closed, sorry".

Any calls, emails and visits to the venue and the owners have not been answered or returned.  So, there is no further information at this time.  You would think there there would have to be.  Planning a wedding can be stressful, not to mention expensive, so trying to find another place really adds to that stress, along with now, possibly double the expense.  Great.  I'm sure this story is not over.
