On March 21st, 1986, the BMX movie Rad was released into theaters... where it bombed. The movie grossed just $2 million dollars at the box office against a $3 million budget.

However, the film was exceedingly popular on home video, where Wikipedia says it was a top-ten video rental for two years following the film's release on VHS and LaserDisc (remember those?).

The movie is the story of Cru Jones, who has to prove to others, and himself, that he can handle the BMX race known as "Helltrack." Of course there is also a romantic subplot in which Cru falls in love with a fellow racer who heavily influences and encourages him to follow his dreams.

To celebrate the 38th anniversary of the film's theatrical release, Rad will be shown in theaters for one day only, March 21st.

Marcus Parkwood Cinema in Waite Park will show Rad on Thursday, March 21st at 7 p.m..  General Admission tickets, which have been selling pretty fast, are $13.89.

On Saturday, March 30th the theater will host an Easter event that includes an egg hunt, pictures with the Easter Bunny, craft stations and the chance to see either the movie Hop or Migration.

The egg hunt will take place at 10:30 a.m. and the movie will start at 11 a.m.. Tickets for the event are just $9.

Marcus Parkwood Cinema is located at 1533 Frontage Road North in Waite Park, just off of Division Street.
