Rocori 16, Sauk Rapids-Rice 15

The Spartans finished the regular season on a winning note with a one point win against the Storm Wednesday night in Sauk Rapids. The Spartans finish the regular season at 2-6 and the loss leaves the Storm at 0-8. Skippy Virchow had a pair of touchdown passes and Rocori converted on two separate two-point conversions to get the one point win.

The Storm actually led at the half 3-0 after a field goal with 10 seconds left in the first quarter. The score stayed at 3-0 at halftime.

In the third quarter the Spartans got on the scoreboard thanks to a 7 yard touchdown reception from Alex Budde. After the two point conversion the Spartans took an 8-3 lead. The Storm retook the lead after a 58 yard touchdown pass from Tyler Bjork to Brandon Morrison. Their two point conversion failed, but nevertheless Sauk Rapids took a 9-8 lead with 4:54 remaining in the third quarter. Just under two minutes later the Spartans answered with a 28 yard touchdown reception by Brad Fabel and another successful two point conversion to take a 16-9 lead.

In the fourth quarter Tyler Bjork hit Michael Lommel for a 70 yard touchdown pass to pull the Storm within 1 point. The extra point attempt was unsuccessful and Rocori held on for the win.

Sartell 21, St. Cloud Apollo 17

The Sartell Sabres won their season finale at home against the Apollo Eagles Wednesday night by a score of 21-17. The Sabres finished the regular season strong, winning 4 in a row and taking down an Eagles team that had clinched the CLC south division title last week with a win. The Eagles had a chance to win the game with a minute left in the fourth quarter inside the Sabres red zone but were unable to convert a fourth down play and turned the ball over. The Sabres ran out the clock to hang on for the close win.
