MINNEAPOLIS -- Two late home runs led the Minnesota Twins to a 2-1 win and series split with the St. Louis Cardinals Thursday at Target Field.

The game was a pitching duel as neither team could crack the scoreboard until the 7th inning when St. Louis outfielder Jason Heyward crushed a Mike Pelfrey pitch off the facing of the upper deck in right-center field to give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead.

It looked like another disappointing loss for Minnesota until Joe Mauer tied the game in the bottom of the ninth with his 3rd home run of the season.

Then, with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, Kennys Vargas -- who had been in a 1-for-15 slump at the plate -- slammed a walk-off home run to right field to give the Twins the 2-1 win.

Minnesota will start a weekend series against the Chicago Cubs tomorrow night. Coverage starts at 6:30 on AM 1240 WJON.
