The Minnesota Department of Agriculture will grant almost $3.5 million to school districts to purchase Minnesota-grown foods for breakfast and lunch. Applications are also being accepted for equipment purchases to help school districts store and prepare locally-grown fresh foods.

The Minnesota School Nutrition Association’s annual conference wrapped up Wednesday at the River’s Edge Convention Center.

Sarah Motl is the Supervisor of Nutrition Services at District 742. She says all families should fill out the free and reduced meal application at their school.

The week highlights the importance of a healthy school lunch in a child’s life and the impact it has inside and outside of the classroom.
