I talked with longtime friend, Jim Gagliardi today and the recent passing of his 91-year old father, legendary former St. John's Football Coach John Gagliardi. John Gagliardi died Sunday at the age of 91 with family by his side.
John Gagliardi joked with reporters and acted surprised by the attention he was getting at a news conference this (Monday) afternoon. Earlier in the day St. John's University announced Gagliardi's retirement on the school's website.
St. John's football coach John Gagliardi has retired as head coach after 60 seasons and 489 victories. Gagliardi is the all-time winningest coach in college football history. The Johnnies were 5-5 overall and 3-5 in the MIAC in 2012.
COLLEGEVILLE - St. John’s University football coach John Gagliardi is preparing to start his sixth decade at the helm of the Johnnie football program. That’s right, the Gagliardi era at Collegeville began 60 years ago, in the fall of 1953. I recently had the opportunity to sit down with coach Gagliardi and visit with him about his early coaching years, and have him look ahead to his future.
