Thanks to a late-game push, the St. Cloud State University women’s basketball team was able to take down Southwest Minnesota State University on Friday.

SCSU came up short in the first quarter, trailing 16-12. The Huskies outscored the Mustangs in the second quarter 18-13 to hold a small 30-29 lead that the half.

In the third quarter, SCSU was able to extend their lead a little to 49-46. It was in the final 15 minutes that the Huskies really heated up. They put up 37 points and held SMSU to just 15. That burst allowed the Huskies to wrap up the game with a 74-56 win.

Katrina Theis led the team in scoring with 21 points, seven rebounds, and two blocks. Madelin Dammann finished with 14 points, two rebounds, and two steals. Nikki Kilboten added 12 points, 11 rebounds, and three blocks.

The Huskies improve to 5-3 and 2-2 NSIC. On Saturday the team will travel to Sioux Falls to take on USF. Pre-game starts at 3:00 p.m. on AM 1390 Granite City Sports.
