ST. CLOUD - Chanting "Air ball" or "Season's over" may get you into trouble at a Wisconsin high school sporting event.

The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association recently sent an email to athletic directors, banning several cheers from prep games. The list included:

-"Season's over"
-"Air ball"
-"We can't hear you"
-"Sieve"
-"You can't do that"
-"Fundamentals"

St. Cloud Cathedral High School Activities and Athletics director Emmett Keenan feels the banning of cheers is an overreaction.

"We have kids in every school who misbehave at games but I think for the most part, we work with kids, we talk about what's appropriate or not and I think it's an overraction to start banning things."

The list went viral after a student athlete was suspended five games for sending out a critical Tweet with a screenshot of the email.

Keenan is also a board member for the Minnesota State High School League. He says they have standards of behavior for athletic events that highlight respect for your opponent, but don't ban specific chants.

"I think it's more important to give kids a baseline of what's expected and how we respect each other and still have fun. I think that's the balance you need to strike."

Keenan says they have a board meeting coming up and does expect this to be an item of discussion.

"While I'm sure it's not an action item, my guess is there will be lots of conversation about what happened in Wisconsin."

The recent action by the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association even caught the critical attention of ESPN analyst Jay Bilas on Twitter.

"How ridiculous. The "adults" making these decisions have too much time on their hands, and too little sense," The Tweet says.
