Wild Throttled In Motor City Friday

The Minnesota Wild were topped by the previously struggling Detroit Red Wings 5-3 Friday night at Joe Louis Arena. Longtime Wild enemy Todd Bertuzzi scored a pair of goals to lead the Wings to their second win of the season.

After a scoreless first period the Red Wings scored a pair of goals in the opening minute of period two. Damien Brunner scored Detroit's first power play goal of the season (they had been 0-17 in 2013) just :17 into the period, and Bertuzzi scored at :55.

The Wild fought back to tie the game at two. The rally was started on a Zach Parise power play goal from Mikko Koivu and Ryan Suter at 2:49. Tom Gilbert scored Minnesota's second goal at 6:29. Assists on the goal were credited to rookies Mikael Granlund and Jonas Brodin, who was playing in his first NHL game.

However, the Wings would pull away with three straight goals, two late in the second period and one early in the third. Parise scored his third goal of the season for Minnesota halfway through the third period, but it was too little, too late.

The Wild are now 2-2 on the young season and will take on the Blues in St. Louis Sunday night.
