The Minnesota Wild have solved one of their biggest offseason mysteries already by signing goaltender Niklas Backstrom to a three year contract Monday.

Backstrom, 35, appeared in 42 regular season games (41 starts) in 2012-13. He posted a  24-15-3 record with a 2.48 goals-against average, a .909 save percentage and posted two shutouts on the season.
