The Vikings are going with veteran Matt Cassel to be their starting quarterback week 1 when they open the regular season September 7 at St. Louis at noon, pregame on WJON at 11:00.  Cassel started all 3 preseason games and played into the 3rd quarter Saturday at Kansas City.  Jay Glazer of FOX was first to report that Cassel is starting.

Cassel was 9-17 passing for 152 yards with 1 touchdown and 1 interception in Saturday's game against the Chiefs.  Cassel beat out Teddy Bridgewater for the starting job.  Bridgewater threw a pair of touchdown passes Saturday.
