Adrian Peterson's out for Sunday's game AND he faces child abuse charges in Texas.

That after a grand jury indicted the 29-year-old Minnesota Vikings running back on a charge of child abuse. According to the Associated Press, Peterson's lawyer Rusty Hardin says the charges stem from an incident involving Peterson's son:

Attorney Rusty Hardin says the charge accuses Peterson of using a branch, or switch, to spank his son. He says Peterson has cooperated with authorities and “used his judgment as a parent to discipline his son.” Hardin says Peterson regrets the incident but never intended to harm the boy.

Meanwhile, the Vikes have benched Peterson for Sunday's home game against New England.
