The Twins have traded centerfielder Denard Span to the Washington Nationals for minor league righthanded pitcher Alex Meyer.  Meyer is a 22-year old who was drafted 23rd overall in the 2011 draft.  He pitched one year at Class A and had a 2.86 ERA in 129 innings.  Meyer is 6'9 and would be considered the 6th best prospect on the Twins roster according to Baseball America.

Denard Span batted .283 in 568 plate appearances for the Twins in 2012.  Ben Revere will likely take over as the regular centerfielder for the Twins in 2013.
