The Twins beat the Indians 4-2 Monday night in their series opener in Cleveland. Minnesota has won three straight games on their road trip, but have not gained any ground in the wild card race.

The Twins scored three runs in the top of the first inning off of Cleveland ace Cory Kluber. Joe Mauer and Miguel Sano hit back-to-back doubles with two outs, and Trevor Plouffe capped the scoring with a two-run home run.

Tommy Milone, making a spot start in place of the ill Phil Hughes, was efficient enough to earn the win for Minnesota. The lefty lasted 5.2 innings, allowing two runs on four hits while striking out four.

The Twins remain 1.5 games behind Houston (and one game behind Los Angeles) in the Wild Card race. The Astros won at Seattle, and the Angels beat Oakland Tuesday night.

The Twins play at Cleveland again Tuesday night on WJON. Pregame coverage begins at 5:30 p.m., with first pitch scheduled for 6:10 p.m..
