Twins Showed The Winning Formula Last Night!

The 2012 Minnesota Twins may not be such a ‘work in progress’, after all.

The starting pitching staff has question marks everywhere, but we’ll get used to that.  Someone will step up – someone has to.  I’m not sure if we can fully trust Matt Capps as the closer, and the relievers, in general, are a little frightening every time out.

But have you noticed how good the line-up is?

I realize they won’t bang out 14 hits every night, like they did last night in the opener at Yankee Stadium.  But if you look at the heart of that Twins order, when healthy, they will prove to be very formidable all year long.

Thus, keeping the Twins in contention for at least the wildcard, in my opinion, all season long.

It starts with Denard Span, who is off to a good start.  Jamie Carroll can do all of the little things from the #2 spot in the line-up, and his average will improve, because he makes a lot of contact.

Then the tables are set, for; Mauer, Willingham, Morneau, and Ryan Doumit.  That is a very nice first six.  What I especially like, is that all six – even the big boys – are tough outs.  They are NOT “hacks” – as Michael Cuddyer, Jason Kubel, and Delmon Young – all were.

The home run Justin Morneau hit last night is a terrific sign for Twins fans.  I believe the Twins are taking this series in New York very seriously – and it’s very possible that the Yankees may be taking them a little bit lightly.

If we get some starting pitching – even a little – the Twins will be RIGHT THERE – all season long.
