Twins Future is Taking Shape

The Twins have promoted one of their top pitching prospects Kyle Gibson after the game Sunday and have scheduled him to make his major league debut Saturday against Kansas City.  Gibson is the #4 overall prospect and the 2nd best pitching prospect in the Twins organization according to mlb.com.

Gibson has been identified as a potential #2 or even #1 starter in a major league rotation.  His numbers at triple-A Rochester this year are 7-5 with a 3.01 ERA in 15 starts for the Red Wings.  Gibson would have made his major league debut earlier if it hadn't been for Tommy John surgery more than a year ago.

Gibson is considered just one of the future pieces of a new generation of Twins stars.  The others expected to make major impacts are pitchers Alex Meyer, Trevor May and Jose Berrios, outfielders Byron Buxton, Oswaldo Arcia and Aaron Hicks, 3rd baseman Miguel Sano and 2nd baseman Eddie Rosario.

Meyer and May are likely a year away while Berrios is probably 2 years away, Arcia and Hicks are already major leaguers, Buxton is 1 to 2 years away, Sano and Rosario are likely 1 year away.  Will Ron Gardenhire and Rick Anderson be allowed to coach them?  Time will tell.  Gibson's arrival could help save Gardenhire's job while the other hear are trying to bridge the gap.
