The Twins defeated the Los Angeles Angels 1-0 in 10 innings Saturday night. Anthony Swarzak stepped in for Francisco Liriano and threw 8 shutout innings with 1 hit allowed and 2 walks allowed. Swarzak took a no-hitter into the 8th inning when Peter Bourjos hit a double to break it up. Matt Capps threw a scoreless 9th inning and Alex Burnett threw a scoreless 10th inning for the Twins. Danny Valencia hit the game-winning RBI single over the head of Torii Hunter in rightfield to score the game-winning run from 3rd base. The Twins had 3 straight hits in the 10th inning to load the bases before the game-winning hit from Valencia. Liriano missed the start because of a sore left shoulder. The Twins placed reliever Joe Nathan on the 15-day disabled list with sorness in his surgically repaired right elbow. The Twins called up lefthander Chuck James from triple-A Rochester to replace him on the active roster. The Twins and Angels wrapup the 3-game series at Target Field today at 1:10, pregame on WJON at 12:40. Righthander Carl Pavano (2-4) gets the start on the mound for the Twins and righthander Dan Haren (4-3) toes the rubber for the Angels.
