Twins, Cuddyer Pound Angels 11-4
The Twins defeated the Angels in Anaheim 11-4 Wednesday night. Minnesota knocked out 5 homeruns led by Michael Cuddyer with 2 homeruns and 5 RBIs. Cuddyer broke the 4-all tie in the 5th inning with a grand slam homerun. Delmon Young added 2 homeruns and 3 RBIs for the Twins and both Jason Kubel and Ben Revere each had 3 hits and 2 runs scored. Kubel hit a solo homerun. Anthony Swarzak threw 5 shutout innings with 1 hit allowed to get the win in relief. Scott Baker allowed 4 runs (3 earned) in 3 innings pitched.
The Twins are 51-59 and remain 8 games back of Detroit for first place in the American League Central. Minnesota will play at Anaheim against the Angels again tonight at 9:05, pregame on WJON at 8:35. Lefthander Francisco Liriano (7-8) gets the start on the mound for the Twins and righthander Dan Haren (11-6) toes the rubber for the Angels.
Twins top pitching prospect Kyle Gibson could require Tommy John surgery. He'll have his elbow examined in Minnesota.
