DETROIT, Mich. -- A strong pitching performance coupled with big innings at the plate led to a 12-3 Twins victory over the Tigers.

Twins beleaguered starter Ricky Nolasco finished his disappointing season on a strong note, letting up only two runs while striking out six in six innings.

The Tigers took an early 1-0 lead before the Twins scored six runs in the fifth inning behind with RBI singles by Brian Dozier, Eric Fryer, and Eduardo Escobar.

Dozier and Escobar would each hit home runs in the eighth - Escobar's being a three-run shot, giving him six RBI for the game on 4-for-5 hitting.

If the Twins (70-91) can beat the Tigers today and sweep the series, Detroit and Kansas City will have a one-game playoff for the A.L. Central Division Title.

Both teams have already locked up playoff spots.

The Twins will send Kyle Gibson (13-11) to the mound for the final game of the 2014 season.
