Twins Blow Late Lead In Loss To Royals Tuesday
The Royals topped the Twins 6-5 Tuesday night at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City. The Twins held a 5-3 lead in the sixth inning before frittering away the lead in the late innings.
Minnesota got RBI singles from Trevor Plouffe, Oswaldo Arcia, Kurt Suzuki and Shane Robinson in the top of the sixth inning to take a two-run lead, but the Royals chipped away at starting pitcher Tommy Milone and the Twins' bullpen until taking the lead.
Royals second baseman Christian Colon doubled home Paulo Orlando in the bottom of the sixth to cut the Twins lead to 5-4. Colon then plated Jarrod Dyson on a groundout in the eighth inning to tie the game.
Manager Paul Molitor summoned his closer, Glen Perkins, to face Mike Moustakas with two outs in the bottom of the eighth and the go-ahead run on base. However, Moustakas came through with an RBI single that proved to be the game-winner.
The Twins and Royals will meet on Wednesday night to wrap up the series at Kauffman Stadium.
