SCSU Football Falls In Season Opener
The St. Cloud State Football team began the season with a 32-19 loss at home to the University of Sioux Falls Thursday night. SCSU trailed 29-13 at halftime. Phil Klaphake was 15-37 passing for 223 yards and a touchdown with an interception. Klaphake also ran for 119 yards and a scored for SCSU. Austin Harrington led the Huskies with 6 catches for 134 yards and a touchdown.
SCSU Football Players to Start Practice
The St. Cloud State football team will begin practice Saturday night at 7:30. All players are expected to report to SCSU today. The Huskies were 9-3 in 2011 and are picked to finish 2nd in the NSIC this season. St. Cloud State head coach Scott Underwood says because of NCAA rules they will have their first 2 practices with helmets and no pads and will start camp with just 1 practice a day.

St. Cloud State quarterback Phil Klaphake of Princeton and defensive back Marvin Mathews of Roseville are the 2012 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Preseason Offensive and Defensive football players of the year. The players are chosen by the NSIC coaches. Klaphake is a 6'1 185 pound junior who's been a 3-year starter at quarterback for SCSU. Mathews is a 6'0 197 pound senior who was named first team all NSIC last season among other honors.

The St. Cloud State football team announced the signing of 21 players to National Letters of intent Wednesday on College Football National Signing Day. SCSU’s Underwood Is Coach Of The Year Finalist
St. Cloud State football coach Scott Underwood is one of 5 finalists for the Division II 2011 Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year Award. Underwood led the Huskies to their 2nd straight NCAA Division II tournament appearance this season and finished with a 9-3 record. SCSU lost to Wayne State (Michigan) in the first round of the NCAA tournament 2 weeks ago.
Wayne State Upset SCSU Football
The St. Cloud State football team lost 48-38 in the first round of the NCAA Division II Super Region #3 Saturday afternoon at Husky Stadium in St. Cloud. Wayne State led 27-24 at halftime and increased its lead to 41-31 at the end of 3 quarters. Phil Klaphake threw for 284 yards and 3 touchdowns in the loss for SCSU. Klaphake ran for 87 yards to lead SCSU on the ground.
SCSU’s Underwood Is NSIC Coach Of The Year
St. Cloud State football coach Scott Underwood is the NSIC coach of the year for the first time in his career. That announcement came Tuesday when the NSIC announced its season ending awards. Underwood and the Huskies are 9-2 this season and have made back to back appearances in the NCAA tournament. Underwood is 33-13 in his career coaching at SCSU.

The St. Cloud State football team is the #3 seed in the Super Region NCAA Division II tournament. The pairings were announced Sunday. SCSU will play #6 Wayne State (Michigan) Saturday November 19 at SCSU's Husky Stadium. The Huskies are 9-2 while Wayne State is 8-3.
SCSU Tops MSU-Moorhead to Win a Share of NSIC Title
The 13th ranked St. Cloud State football team defeated Minnesota State-Moorhead 47-14 Saturday afternoon to win a share of the NSIC title. SCSU finishes the regular season 9-2 overall and 8-2 in the NSIC. Michael Walker ran for 73 yards and 3 touchdowns for SCSU and Andy Folz ran for 73 yards and 1 touchdown for the Huskies. Phil Klaphake threw for 157 yards and ran for 34 yards and 1 touchdown for St. Cloud State.
