The Twins edged the Rays 5-4 at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida Friday night. The Twins went out to a 2-0 lead before scoring 4 straight runs to lead 4-2 after 6 innings. Minnesota got a bases clearing double from Josh Willingham in the 7th inning to take a 5-4 lead. Joe Mauer went 2-3 with 2 RBIs and Jamey Carroll was 2-3 with 2 runs scored. Matt Maloney threw 1 inning of scoreless relief to get the win. Liam Hendriks threw 5 2/3 innings with 5 hits and 4 earned runs allowed. Matt Capps threw a scoreless 9th inning to get the save.
Rangers Edge Twins 4-3 To Complete Sweep
The Twins lost 4-3 at home to the Texas Rangers Sunday afternoon. The Rangers complete the 3-game sweep and send the Twins to a American League worst 2-7. Minnesota led until the 8th inning when Josh Hamilton hit a 2-run homerun off Twins' reliever Glen Perkins. Perkins allowed 2 hits and 3 earned runs without recording an out for the Twins. Newly acquired outfielder Clete Thomas hit a 2-run homerun in his Twins debut.
