The 16th ranked Gopher men's basketball team defeated Northwestern 81-70 Wednesday night to improve to 16-4 overall and 5-3 in the Big Ten. The win is the 4th straight for the Gophers. Minnesota played without point guard Al Nolen, who is out with a broken bone in his foot. He had surgery Wednesday and is expected to be out 4-6 weeks.

Gopher senior point guard Al Nolen has a broken bone in his foot and will require surgery on Wednesday. Nolen will have a pin put in his foot and no timetable for his return has been announced. Tubby Smith would not rule out a possible return for Nolen this season.

The Gopher men's basketball team is ranked #15 this week in the Associated Press top 25 and #19 in the ESPN/USA Today poll. Minnesota is 14-4 overall and 3-3 in the Big Ten.

The 25th ranked Gopher men's basketball team defeated Iowa 69-59 Sunday evening at Williams Arena. Trevor Mbakwe came off the bench to lead Minnesota with 16 points and 12 rebounds, Al Nolen added 13 points and Ralph Sampson III added 11 points.

The 25th ranked Gopher men's basketball team defeated #8 Purdue Thursday night at Williams Arena. Al Nolen made the game-winning basket with 3:05 left when he hit a 3-point basket breaking a 67-all tie. No one scored the rest of the way.

Junior forward Trevor Mbakwe will not start tonight's game as punishment for being arrested Monday for a violation of a no-contact order by posting a message on his ex-girlfriend's facebook page.

University of Minnesota forward Trevor Mbakwe was jailed Monday for violating a harassment restraining order. Police say Mbakwe was booked into Ramsey County Jail on misdemeanor charges for posting a message on a St. Paul woman's Facebook page.

The 21st ranked Gopher men's basketball team lost 67-64 at #2 Ohio State Sunday afternoon. Minnesota trailed by 10 at halftime and by as many as 18 points in the 2nd half.

The Gopher men's basketball team defeated Indiana 67-63 Tuesday night to get their first Big Ten win. Minnesota trailed by 6 at halftime but rallied with a 10-0 run in the 2nd half.

The 21st ranked Gopher men's basketball team will host Indiana tonight in their Big Ten home opener and they will do so without guard Devoe Joseph. Joseph will not play tonight.
