Nelson has been pitching at Class A Lakeland and has a 4.87 ERA and 5-11 record in 26 appearances for Lakeland. Young was hitting .266 for the Twins with 4 homeruns and 32 RBIs this season. Young is under team control through 2012.
The Twins defeated the Angels in Anaheim 11-4 Wednesday night. Minnesota knocked out 5 homeruns led by Michael Cuddyer with 2 homeruns and 5 RBIs. Cuddyer broke the 4-all tie in the 5th inning with a grand slam homerun. Delmon Young added 2 homeruns and 3 RBIs for the Twins and both Jason Kubel and Ben Revere each had 3 hits and 2 runs scored.
The Twins are 7 games back of Detroit for first place in the American League Central with 2 months remaining and a week to go before the Major League Baseball trading deadline. The Twins should finally cut bait on Liriano, Slowey and Delmon Young. Liriano is inconsistent and doesn't keep the team in the game half of the time. Kevin Slowey doesn't want to be here and his value doesn't seem to be increasing.
