ST. CLOUD - The St. Cloud State Huskies had a 4-1 lead in the second period but couldn't hold off Western Michigan University, as both teams battled to a 5-5 tie on Friday night at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center.

Jimmy Murray scored twice, Kalle Kossila and Cory Thorson also scored for a 4-1 Husky lead in the second period. WMU would strike back to tie the game 4-4 by the end of the period.

In the third period, Nic Dowd scored to give the Huskies a 5-4 advantage. WMU would tie the game again at 16:38 in the period to send the game to overtime.

The game had to be decided in a shootout, Western Michigan won with a 1-0 margin for the bonus point.

Goalie Ryan Faragher made 22 saves for the Huskies, who are now 12-3-4 overall this season. Game two is set for Saturday night at 7:07 p.m. at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center.
