SCSU Forward Nic Dowd Named One Of Three Finalists For Hobey Baker Award
Just one year after Drew LeBlanc took home St. Cloud State's first ever Hobey Baker Award, Nic Dowd has a chance to take home a second for the school. Dowd, along with Johnny Gaudreau of Boston College and Greg Carey of St. Lawrence, was named a "Hobey Hat Trick" finalist on Wednesday.
Dowd, the National Collegiate Hockey Conference's Scholar-Athlete of the Year and its Defensive Forward of the Year, scored 40 points in 38 games this season including 22 goals.
Gaudreau was a finalist for the award in 2013 as well. This season with BC the junior forward notched 35 goals and 42 assists for a nation-leading 77 points (14 points more than second place Kevin Hayes, also a BC Eagle).
Carey, a senior forward, scored 18 goals and tallied 39 assists for a total of 57 points with St. Lawrence.
In his four year career with the Huskies, the Huntsville native scored 121 points placing him 15th all-time on the SCSU career leaderboard.
The Hobey Baker Award will be presented in Philadelphia next weekend as part of the ceremonies at the Frozen Four.
