SARTELL -- The Sabres hosted Grand Rapids for Homecoming but the game took on added significance as the tragic news of Sartell graduate, Thomas Bearson, stunned the community this week.

Sartell players wore a "TB" decal on their helmets in honor of Bearson, and students organized a fundraiser at the game to collect donations for the Bearson family.

Sartell principal, Brenda Steve, says the students wanted to do something positive in support of the Bearson family.

"They've been raising money for the Tom Bearson Family Fund and we're going to take the funds collected and present it to the family," Steve says.

As for the game, the Sabers overcame a barrage of injuries throughout the week as seniors, Darek Stachowski and Peyton Voss were both inactive.

Sartell never trailed in the contest and had many contributors on the offense.

With the win, the Sabres move to 4-1 on the season and travel to Rocori next Friday to take on the Spartans.
