Miguel Sano's pinch-hit home run in the top of the 12th inning led the Twins to a 3-2 win over the Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium Wednesday night. Minnesota is now just 1.5 games behind Texas in the wild card standings.

Mike Pelfrey earned a no-decision after pitching 5.1 innings and allowing just one run on five hits while not issuing the walk. Blaine Boyer earned the win with 1.2 innings of hitless relief, and Kevin Jepson pitched a perfect 12th for his 12th save of the season.

The Twins get Thursday night off before heading to Chicago to begin a series with the White Sox Friday night.
