The St. Cloud State Huskies may have a new men's basketball coach for the first time in 17 years, but it's hardly a new face. Longtime assistant Matt Reimer was named the new coach Monday at a press conference at Halenbeck Hall.

Reimer replaces Kevin Schlagel, who won a school record 341 games in a career that began in 1997.

Reimer's coaching career began in 1989 as a student assistant at Central College, a position he filled until 1991, when he became an assistant coach in multiple sports at New London-Spicer.

He arrived at SCSU in 1995 as a graduate assistant and has been behind the bench ever since. The Huskies had two other candidates in town for interviews and public forums, but in the end chose the hometown nominee.
